Health Sciences North Foundation

Because of you…Health Sciences North Foundation supports Regional Health Care Excellence by; purchasing equipment, building facilities and advancing life-saving research at Health Sciences North.

HSN's Learners' Centre

All proceeds raised from Taste St. will support the purchase of priority equipment needs for the Simulation Lab and the building of the Learners' Centre on the grounds of HSN. This 20,000-square-foot project, costing over $20-million, will provide the facilities and technology required to train both medical staff and students who are - or soon will be - on the front lines of patient care.

Supporting up to 2,000 learners each year, the focal point of the Learners Centre will be the Simulation Lab, where rooms can be adapted to replicate an emergency room, ICU, a surgical suite or just about any typical medical setting. Using highly sophisticated medical manikins that can simulate breathing, pulses, blood pressure, as well as speech and sound, a patient's response to illness, injury and treatment can be replicated. Learners are able to practice on a "virtual patient" to gain invaluable training with no risk to patients.

This world-class medical training facility will ensure northerners will be among the first to benefit from breakthrough techniques and treatment methods. By providing greater teaching and learning opportunities, the Simulation Lab will also help to attract some of the brightest minds in health care to our community.
